Cabrera XIV wreck in National Geographic


In the February issue of National Geographic Spain is been published and article about the work with the IBEAM in the Roman wreck Cabrera XIV. This Roman shipwreck has remained hidden for 2000 years under the waters of Cabrera archipelago (Mallorca). We were lucky enough to be the first to dive there. In the Nat Geo article appears the “orthophoto”, a zenithal image of the complete wreck, for which we need two dives and more than 1000 photographs. The amount of detail is amazing. Rectilinear wide-angle lenses are one of the biggest nightmares for full-frame UW photographers. The main reason is the lack of image corner sharpness when using these lenses behind a dome port (it also happens with other sensor sizes but in a minor grade). Canon 5Ds R: The new resolution Queen


Some days ago I had the opportunity to try the new Canon 5DsR (thanks to Foto Casanovas). This is the new Canon flagship, in terms of resolution, with its new 50Mpixels sensor and the Digic 6 processor. The Japanese manufacturer launched two versions, the 5Ds, with low pass filter, and the 5DsR, without low pass filter, which gives an extra sharpness at a cost of producing some moiré (quite uncommon underwater).
